VTOL UAV Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from defense and commercial procurement teams about SX30K / 30kg / 150kg VTOL platforms

The three VTOL platforms are optimized for different payload and endurance requirements. SX30K is a compact ISR platform (MTOW ~30kg) with 6-hour endurance, designed for persistent wide-area surveillance and border monitoring. The 30kg platform (MTOW ~30kg) is a multi-role VTOL optimized for logistics delivery and medium-range ISR with a 5kg payload capacity. The 150kg platform (MTOW ~150kg) is a heavy-lift VTOL for large payload ISR, cargo delivery, and specialized mission equipment, with up to 50kg payload capacity and 8-hour endurance.

No. All three VTOL platforms use a hybrid VTOL-to-fixed-wing transition design — they take off and land vertically like a multirotor, then transition to fixed-wing cruise flight for efficiency. This eliminates the need for any runway infrastructure, making them suitable for deployment from small clearings, vehicle rooftops, ship decks, or confined forward operating bases.

Standard payload options include EO/IR gimbal cameras (30x optical zoom), SAR (synthetic aperture radar) for all-weather imaging, LiDAR for terrain mapping, and hyperspectral sensors for agricultural and environmental applications. The 150kg platform additionally supports SIGINT/ELINT payloads and multi-sensor fusion configurations. Custom payload integration is available for customer-supplied sensors within the platform's payload weight and power envelope.

SX30K: 6+ hours endurance, 200km+ range. 30kg platform: 5+ hours endurance, 150km+ range. 150kg platform: 8+ hours endurance, 300km+ range. All figures are for standard ISR configuration at cruise altitude. Endurance decreases with heavier payloads or in high-altitude/high-temperature (HAHT) environments. Extended-range variants with additional fuel capacity are available on request.

Yes. All VTOL platforms are designed for all-weather operations. The SX30K and 30kg platforms are rated for wind resistance up to 15m/s in cruise and 10m/s during VTOL transition. The 150kg platform is rated for 18m/s cruise and 12m/s transition. All platforms incorporate anti-icing systems for cold-weather operations and are IP54-rated for rain and dust ingress protection. Night operations are fully supported via EO/IR payload.

VTOL ISR platforms are classified as dual-use items under China's Export Control Law. Buyers must provide an End-User Certificate (EUC) on government letterhead and, where required, an Import Certificate from the destination country. Export license processing typically takes 4–8 weeks for cooperative countries. Star United Flight Control will assist with the export licensing process upon receipt of a signed Letter of Intent and required documentation.
